Today’s derby fixtures in the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League fell victim to the ongoing weather problems as the full programme over two divisions suffered blanket postponements.

Farsley AFC were due to host Thackley, with Brighouse Town having home advantage over Liversedge in the Premier Division.

In the lower tier,Eccleshill United were also due to be at home, with Leeds-ased Yorkshire Amateur visiting.

Farsley manager Neil Parsley said: “There was no way it was playable as there were still one-and-a-half inches of snow on the pitch and it was still hard underneath.

“The keepers did a bit of handling work on it and the rest of the squad trained.

“It is very frustrating because we don’t have a game for ten days now and then that one is away from home.

"Our next scheduled fixture is Saturday, January 8, and that is a long time off.

“The lads have been good and we have tried to keep their spirits up by making the training as interesting as possible.

“We have been trying to keep things normal by having two sessions in the week and then one at weekends.

“They don’t like doing the running - they would sooner be playing games but they are a good bunch of honest lads and have worked hard.”

Brighouse Town boss Mark Brier took a different approach by ringing his players to give them the day off.

“We decided not to bring them in for a training session but we have one planned for today,” said Brier.

“It’s hard knowing what to do for the best with the half-thaw, half-freeze type of thing going on. It’s been different to last year when we kept the lads going through it because this has been so much more severe.

“We had the safety of the players to consider in regards to them getting to wherever we had something booked.

"It is one thing arranging sessions and paying out for gyms and things but what benefit is it if only half the squad can get there?”
