Hereford have appointed former Bantams boss Lennie Lawrence as technical director to work alongside manager Jamie Pitman, who has been put in charge until the end of the campaign.

Having started the season as the club’s physio, 34-year-old Pitman had been been working as the League Two club’s caretaker boss on a short-term contract following Simon Davey’s sacking from Edgar Street in October.

Lawrence (pictured), who has also been in charge at Cardiff and Middlesbrough, said: “Football has been my life so I jumped at the chance to pass on some of my experience to a young manager like Jamie.

“He’s in charge but it’s my job to help guide him through some challenges that lie ahead.”

Pitman said: “I’ve enjoyed my first two months as caretaker and appreciate the chance I’ve now been given but we’ve a real challenge ahead and to have somebody like Lennie on board is fantastic.”

Pitman will take permanent charge with his side – who lost 1-0 at the Bantams last week – rooted to the bottom of the Football League on 15 points from their opening 19 games.
