Guiseley may be joint-leaders of the Blue Square Bet North table following a perfect return to league action in midweek but they face yet another stern test on Saturday.

The Lions progressed in the FA Trophy last Saturday and beat Droylsden 2-1 at home on Tuesday to climb above Boston United.

They will have to find the same form and ruthlessness in the midlands this weekend as they head to fourth-placed AFC Telford United, who trail the Lions by five points but have a game in hand.

However, Guiseley’s form has been imperious as they have lost just twice this season and both of those defeats were at home.

They lost their only league game at Nethermoor to date on the opening day of the season and were dumped out of the FA Cup by Crawley Town, who are knocking on the door of the Football League.

Lions boss Steve Kittrick will have to shuffle his pack as midfielder Liam Needham injured an ankle in last Saturday’s 1-0 win at Chorley in the FA Trophy and missed Tuesday’s league victory.

He is rated as very doubtful for Saturday and also the midweek West Riding County Cup second-round home tie against Brighouse Town. Definitely out is striker Darryn Stamp, who is serving a three-match ban for a recent sending off.

Kittrick won the BSB North manager of the month award for both September and October and has led his side to greater heights in November.

On the possibility of making it three on the spin, he said – with tongue firmly in cheek: “They say these things come in threes but I’m leaving the next one until May. That’ll mean we are top of the table!”
