Guiseley moved joint-top of the Blue Square Bet North table with a 2-1 home win over seventh-placed Droylsden at Nethermoor.
The Lions knew they would take outright second place off Boston United with a win and have played the same number of games as the Lincolnshire outfit.
But they also put extra pressure on Alfreton Town, who now lead by goal difference only but have two games in hand on Guiseley.
Leading scorer James Walshaw made the difference again as he bagged himself a brace and the home side all three points.
Walshaw opened the scoring in the 19th minute when he headed in from a Warren Peyton corner.
Droylsden levelled before the break through striker Lewis Killeen but the Lions created a lot of second-half chances.
They had to be patient but Walshaw grabbed his second ten minutes from time with a superbly struck effort from the right-hand side of area.
