Fed-up Simon Ramsden faces a longer lay-off after suffering another injury setback.

Ramsden, sidelined since the opening week of the season, had been pencilled in for a possible comeback against Rotherham on Tuesday.

Instead, he faces a trip to the specialist to establish the root cause of the pain in his calf.

Peter Taylor admitted: “We’re keeping the rope and petrol away from him because I think he’s so bad that I’m a bit worried.

“But he’ll pick himself up and we’ll keep him busy.

“It’s frustrating for Simon and for us because he showed in pre-season that he can play in midfield and at the back.

“He’s a good leader, a good captain and a good pro with experience.

“He’s felt his calf again but we’re looking at other areas in his body.

“To me, it’s more his hips or back which are not right but he’s getting the pain in the calf area.”

Taylor plans to watch another game tonight in his on-going search for a loan striker.

But there will be no addition ahead of Saturday's trip to Northampton.

He added: “I haven’t made any more progress at the moment but I am still looking.

“On the positive side, Michael Flynn is getting a little bit better and training every day. He’s still nowhere near it but he’s going to see the consultant again.

James Hanson is also very close to training with us, maybe at the start of next week. That’s why I’ve got to be picky and not just bring in someone because they are new.”
