A hastily rearranged Evo-Stik League fixture sees Bradford Park Avenue heading for the midlands to take on Chasetown on Saturday.

There were no scheduled league matches as it is FA Cup second qualifying round day and most Premier Division sides are still in that competition.

But an early exit for Avenue left them free to travel to face the club they played at Horsfall Stadium on the opening day of the campaign.

It will be the first of two league games for Avenue in the space of three days as they also host Whitby Town on Monday night.

Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at Hucknall Town meant Avenue have lost just one of their last five league games and lifted themselves into the top half of the table. They will be looking for an early double as they beat Chasetown 1-0 at home last month.

Club chairman John Dean said: “I’m sure the boys will be confident and Simon (manager Collins) will have some decisions to make after the midweek game because he has players back.

“Goalkeeper Ben Scott was working so couldn’t travel with us to Hucknall, new signing Liam Chapman was on a coaching course and Danny Facey was carrying an injury so didn’t make the squad either.

“All of the players who deputised for them did exceptionally well on the night and I feel we were unfortunate not to get the win. Dave Heagney came in for Danny up front and our first goal came about after his shot was parried and he scored the second himself.

“Spenser Harris was in the number five shirt and playing in defence instead of Chapman and he looked very good. He was calm and settled, strong on the ball and in the air and his distribution was very good.

“The situation with the keeper was different because while Ben had work commitments, our other keeper Steven Kerr was only fit enough to be on the bench, just in case of emergencies.”

Collins brought in Jordan Yorath, an accomplished keeper who the Bradford locals will know all about because of his father Terry and the fact that he has played for Thackley.

Dean said: “Jordan only came in to help us out so I expect Ben will be back for the Chasetown game, with Steven available as cover. But the other two positions must be causing Simon some headaches.

“With two games in quick succession, if we make the most of them we will be back in the pack with the challengers. We haven’t had a worse start this season than last and we ended that one by just missing out on automatic promotion.”
