Amdy Faye gave a hint of how useful he might be for Leeds this season when he played in two different positions during the midweek reserve match against Middlesbrough.
The 33-year-old Senagalese international started the game as the holding midfielder but slotted in just as comfortably at centre-half when Leigh Bromby had to go off injured.
Faye, who has played eight seasons in the Premiership, has signed until January in the hope of showing United manager Simon Grayson that he deserves a full contract, although he admits that he is not yet up to full fitness.
Faye said: “I was happy to play the 90 minutes. I need to show every day in training and in the matches I play that if my fitness comes back I will be happy and the club will be happy.”
Faye feels his experience can help some of the younger members of the squad and is optimistic that Leeds are heading in the right direction.
He said: “This is a big club with a big fan base and that’s just what I need. The city and the fans want Premiership football again and I think we have a chance of giving it to them.”
