Thackley 0 Farsley AFC 2

Farsley took the points from the Premier Division derby at Dennyfield thanks to a double from Gareth Grant to reclaim top spot.

Both sides were limited to half-chances in the first half as they cancelled each other out but Farsley grew as the game went on.

Thackley were reduced to ten men two minutes from time. Substitute Matthew Hall headed for the showers early when he brought an attacker down in the area and was deemed to be last man. Grant stepped forward but home keeper Matt Convey parried his effort.

It denied Grant a hat-trick as he forced the ball over the line to break the deadlock on the hour and netted with a low drive from the edge of the area following a Farsley free-kick in the last minute.

Farsley manager Neil Parsley said: “It was a tough derby and I’m delighted to get the win because Thackley will take points off a lot of teams who come here.

“In the context of the game, we didn’t play well in the first half but we defended solidly, which I haven’t been able to say too often over the past few weeks.

“Full credit to Dave Morgan and Thackley though and I think they will finish higher than fourth this season.

“They have a good, young, very energetic side who work their socks off and get in your faces.”

The defeat dropped the Dennyboys to sixth but they are only six points behind Farsley and have two games in hand.

Farsley have also played twice more than the second and third-placed clubs.
