Gloucester City 1 Guiseley 2

The Blue Square Bet North’s leading scorer enhanced his reputation by bagging himself a brace to earn Guiseley yet another three-point maximum on the road.

Jamie Walshaw weighed in with a double, like he did at Hinckley United the week before.

He got to work quite quickly on this occasion, opening the scoring in the fourth minute.

The breakthrough came after a Darryn Stamp header from a Dave Merris corner cannoned back off the bar. Walshaw pounced to net with his left foot.

He had further chances to add to his tally in the first half but the score remained 1-0 at the interval.

Gloucester’s players must have had the hair-dryer treatment from their manager during the break. They came out fired up for the second period and were soon on level terms.

Just six minutes into the half, a cross from open play was converted by a well-placed header from Will Morford.

The home side had a spell of possession following that but could not find a way around the visitors’ defence.

The Lions roared once more as they came back at the home side. The last 20 minutes belonged to Guiseley and they made the game safe when Walshaw drilled a shot past the home keeper after receiving the ball with his back to goal and turning his marker.

With Droylsden not playing at the weekend, the Lions’ victory consolidated fifth place and moved them closer to the summit.

Leaders Alfreton Town were beaten at home by second-placed Boston.
