Your club needs YOU says Langley in rallying call to Bulls fans

Jamie Langley has urged Bulls supporters to throw their backing behind the club’s bold Pledge 10,000 scheme.

Bradford’s vice-captain is excited about the prospect of a significant bump in attendances and has assured fans they can play their part in a return to the glory days.

Two years of underachievement have caused the average attendance to dip below 9,000 this year but the club’s new initiative aims to attract 10,000 pledges for season tickets at the reduced price of £60.

“I think it’s a brilliant idea and a great scheme,” said Langley.

I remember sitting in the stands [as a young kid] to watch those games and the atmosphere was unbelievable. There’s nothing else like it.

Jamie Langley

“The price being offered to fans is fantastic and if the target is reached then it will be great for the club as well.

“It’s been tough going the last couple of years but we have a loyal fanbase who have stuck with us through thick and thin. That’s what being a supporter is about, being there even through the bad times.

“We really appreciate that support and the scheme is reward for that.”

Signed by Bradford as a 16-year-old academy recruit in 1999, Langley was at the club throughout the Super League glory years.

A member of the Grand Final-winning team in 2005, he remembers vividly the buzz surrounding the Bulls during their time as a dominant force in the English game.

More than 13,000 fans regularly made their way through the Odsal turnstiles and Langley admits that kind of support was a big factor in attracting players to the club.

He said: “I remember being a young kid when the club first started bringing me down to games before I joined up.

“I remember sitting in the stands to watch those games and the atmosphere was unbelievable. There’s nothing else like it.

“That’s one of the reasons I wanted to play here.

“It gives you a tingle down the back of your neck and the way the crowd got behind the players was impressive.”

Moves have been made to improve performances through the appointment of coach Mick Potter and a strong recruitment drive but Langley reiterated the part the fans can play in the process.

He said: “It’s massive. When you come out for the warm-up or even approach the stadium and there’s already people turning up it makes you feel good and you know it will be a good day.

“There are times when both mentally and physically you might not have much left in the tank but when you hear the supporters get behind you it gives you that extra lift.”

Pledges can be made by calling the club on 08448-711490, by texting ‘pledge’ to 60777 or by visiting the Bulls website at www.bradford bulls.co.uk. The total number of pledges so far is just short of 5,000.

Where do they get only 2 years from when it has clearly been the last 4 years?

Just a quick note on all those kopczac slaters. All season you have given him grief and then because potter resigns him he's played well in last few games. Bunch of sheep follow your shepherd.

Personally I think we'll fail to reach the 10k mark. All the hardcore/regular fans will have signed up by now so to get the same number again of floating/fair weather fans is gonna be real hard.

I agree.

Thought more would have signed up by now as not even half way there yet & just over a month to go so cant see it happening.

Reasonbly impressed with the 3 names we have signed for next season but we definitely need a "marquee" signing & fast as the floaters arent going to sign up otherwise.

Thought that they'd name a couple at least yesterday as Hood kept going on about the 1st Sept deadline at the fans forum & yet we announce 3 before this date & none on the day itself!!!

Elima has seemed nailed on for at least a week so presume he will be announced this week but we need to move fast & get these names out there so the fans who werent sure will back the pledge.

£60 is a lot of money to watch CRAP.This friday will show how bad we are. What i want to heard is Orford will return.Leon will play S/O. Big Stu at prop, and Willie Mason to give us a bit of mongul in the pack.I don't mind who stays at the club. But if we don't improve the squad i dread to think what will become of a once mighty team

KitMan... you talk a bit of sence there son. With big Willie Mason, He will be a marquee signing IF we get him. And stick a few on the pledge.. Orford IS returning. it is just scaremongering he is a top player. Thats why clubs in the NRL want him back. He is on too good a money at Bradford. Leon Pryce has a very serious neck injury. This may well prevent him signing for us. I understand the injury is very similar to the one sustained by South Sydney Prop Scott Geddes. But it is being kept under wraps. Fielden wont be coming back to the club. The club have pulled out of the chase.

It was always going to be a struggle to reach 10'000. It's not beyond possibility but still a long way off.
The simple truth is Mr Hood kept his prudence thing going far too long. Keeping "you know who"at the helm and letting things slide to the unprofessional mess it ended up in.
Now he comes up with a brilliant idea of £60 a season but is about to learn the hard way. It's very easy to lose fans, especially with the bulk of them being 'floating' but trying to win them back is a different matter. Just as you wouldn't want a stale loaf for say 5p fans will want to be sure of some value for their money, even at cut price.
It is a tall order which in my opinion would have been much easier had the likes of Potter been employed 12 months earlier.

kitman, yes we are a poor team THIS SEASON, but we are now begining to get players in that potter wants, or hadn't you noticed. as to leon coming back, his neck injury may stop that. the rumour has it that fielden off to hull fc. willie mason is not coming to bradford, he's kr/giants bound (see my earlier post, no mention of bradford). as to getting, to use an oz phrase, a bit of MONGREL in the pack, potter will have an idea who he wants. and before you say anything about the new signings, remember we got mick withers nobody had heard of, hape, who was finished according to some, ian henderson, again nobody had heard of, and has they say look how good they turned out to be. so knock the team by all means this season but next season is something else. £60 is great value to watch rugby league at odsal.

I would say we have 5k pledges of £60 that does not include junior season tickets and as far as I am aware families only count as 1 pledge(anyone clarify) so while we saying it's poor for all we know we might have a true figure of 9k season tickets sold granted in don't change the pledge total, at least the attendances will be up

pjbull says...
11:02am Thu 2 Sep 10

The current pledge number must surely be the number processed not the number pledged. It stayed at the same total for 3 days over the weekend - why do you think that was ? Do you think they received no pledges over those 3 days? The actual number of pledges must be higher; I suspect a lot higher.

Actually if you bought say two adult season tickets on one web form, does that counts as 1 pledge? If you'd filled out two forms with a single ticket, would that count as 2 pledges? if that's the case all those who have bulked their season tickets pledges have missed a trick

I suspect that 2, as for the number staying the same over the weekend that's simple, it was the bank hol weekend nobody their to update it :) not even computers want to work on bank hol

families count as 2 but I wouldn't get too worried as of yet, Its not a live counter and it takes times to proses the forms and I'm also guessing that the club will be holding a few back to keep interest.

5k is the hardcore so we need to start enthusing the fans we have lost over the past 4 seasons. The signings to date will not do that IMO. Even then big signings alone are not enough for those who are entrenched in the past and remember only the exciting decade from 96 onwards. So its going to be difficult to get to 10k but lets try our best. Unfortunately Orford will not come back and this fact coupled with the re signing of Kopjack and Worrincy will hardly enthuse our fans.

obi wan kanobi says...

Duckett - Why are you so insistent that Orford will not be back. Every team in the NRL has theur halveback positions covered for 2011. You talk out of your backside. Are you Birkybull in disguise???

Couldn't agree with you more, well said. It's because of the negativity off bloggers on here that I seldom contribute. Koppy had a serious injury (broken leg?) and they are not supermen and it takes time to get fit again and regain confidence and he is only young and will keep improving

They were not crap when we were 4th in the league! The nucleus of the team is still there and with new signings things are looking up. Cant see Leon, Stu or Mason signing for various reasons, but I'm not in the know IMO, not like a lot of the crystal ball gazers on here

Hey guys, I.m glad to be one of the few who rated Koppy all along (though had a few doubts this season). He was my tip to be the most improved player this season but fell a bit short. Anyone who judges a forward before he reaches around 26 yrs old, knows little of the history of rugby league players.Forwards don't all blossom in their early 20's. Many are much older.

kopz! he has been on fire recently once he got fit again and was given ample game time, i mean no wonder he took a while to come back. He missed all of pre season with a serious medial ligament injury, then he almost broke his foot! is he meant to be super-ted or summat to be expected to catch up on months of missed training!!
I mean look at langley he has had his fair share of injuries and look at him now, he is only mediocre because he is now trying to get back to fitness after injury, whereas he was playing like a man posessed at the start of 2010. Give these guys a break and if you have not played the game professionally how can you even begin to comment nevermind criticise!

The simple point I was making is that it IS necessary to enthuse those who are not the real hardcore fans if you want to pursuade them to pledge and that re signing Worrincy and Koppy will not achieve that. Also, my buddies in Oz tell me that Orford is defo not returning. Not to worry, we can spend the brass saved on his wages as Hoody says we will spend up to the cap. No probs. If Hall goes as well (hope so)we save a fair bit more to spend on a top quality half back.

It is £60 now but I was told that it will go up a little if the 10,000 isn't achieved. I am puzzled how some have said the money is on the way. How much have you paid? Will they ring you and ask for more if it goes up a little?

It is true that with modern day training regimes and full time playing more young forwards are coming to the fore but I repeat, anyone who judges a young forward before the age of around 26 is judging prematurely and is showing a lack of knowledge. This is after all the reason Koppy has a 3 year contract. Because Potter also knows this. Just another indication the guy knows what he's doing.

vikings quids inare in talks with club over services of Anthony Thackeray

VIQI has held in-depth discussions with the Widnes Vikings Club with respect to helping to retain the services of Anthony Thackeray. A way forward has been proposed by VIQI that will hopefully help the club retain Anthony's services over the coming years whilst ensuring further youngsters within the club and Halton area benefit from his skills, knowledge and passion for the game.

VIQI has put forward a proposal whereby they would sponsor Anthony to secure his signature and for him to also become a Widnes Vikings Community Development Officer, placing him within the Youth Development structure at the club in a coaching / mentoring role, assisting the Scholarship and/or u16's within the clubs coaching structure. Anthony would also become the ‘front man' for the VIQI scheme helping to raise its profile and increase its membership numbers.

Lots of fans have already expressed a desire to help the club retain the services of Anthony and ensure that he plays a key role in the coming seasons. Should the Vikings secure a Super League licence he is exactly the type of player VIQI is here to support and we believe it is essential that we do all we can to keep him at the Stobart Stadium Halton.

10,000 is a big number but you'd think it would be acheivable, afterall those that pledge still have to pay!

I'd welcome Elima but not especially Mason or Fielden.

The Worrincy re-signing would be a worry despite my view that Potter will wish to build his team and in theory Worrincy should be athletic BUT his tackling has been abysmal at times and he doesn't seem to have the commitment a forward needs. perhaps a lack of confidence?

On half backs I'll suggest again Rangi Chase but I don't know if he'd count in the quota. Glad to see we've gone for another Kiwi though; Kiwi's and south sea islanders every time over tired end of contract Aussies.
