Thackley progressed through to the second round of the Kool Sport NCE League President’s Cup thanks to a narrow win over their former manager Billy Fox’s Staveley MW at Dennyfield.
The visitors took the lead when Rob Law, who followed Fox to Staveley from Thackley, headed in from an 11th-minute corner.
The Dennyboys hit back midway through the first half through Tom Higman, who netted a shot from just inside the visitors’ half.
The winner came 15 minutes from time and was one of the first touches for substitute striker Luke Hudson.
He hit a long-range drive that the Staveley keeper got a hand to but could not keep out.
