Leeds United are hoping to sign another striker before Saturday’s season opener against Derby County.

With Max Gradel and Davide Somma suspended and Billy Paynter and Robert Snodgrass on crutches with pre-season injuries, manager Simon Grayson is short of firepower.

Depending on the results of a scan, which will show how long Snodgrass is likely to be out, Grayson will decide whether to move for a permanent signing or a loan to fill the gap.

"If Snoddy is going to be out for a long time, we will go out and get someone," Grayson said. "We’re already ahead of the game in that respect and have someone lined up who may come in early this week."

Grayson took his summer signings to seven last Friday when he persuaded former Ipswich defender Alex Bruce to turn down Sheffield United and sign for Leeds.
