The prospect of Farsley reforming after going out of business last season looks increasingly likely – but they will have to drop their Celtic tag.

The Throstle Nest outfit were expelled from the Blue Square North in March after failing to agree a deal with administrators but it is hoped a phoenix club can rise again in the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Farsley’s life president John Palmer attended a meeting at Wembley with the FA, with representatives from the league and the West Riding County FA also involved.

The FA gave their blessing to Farsley taking up the place in the NCEL top tier.

But the only stipulation they insisted on was that the “new” club would have to forgo use of the Celtic name.

Palmer confirmed on the club website: “The club will be known as Farsley AFC.

“If we had managed to purchase the club as a going concern their would have been no need for these sorts of discussions and, while we understand the league and the FA’s restrictions on the use of the name Celtic, we want to try and ensure that there are not large scale changes.

“With that in mind there is unlikely to be any change to the kit and only minor changes to the club crest.”
