Peter Taylor believes the speculation surrounding him is a sign City are on the up.

Already linked to managerial vacancies at Hull and Bahrain this year, the latest rumours suggest Bradford’s boss is a contender to succeed Steve Cotterill at Notts County.

But Taylor was quick to dismiss the claims and suggested the attention he is receiving in the national press is a result of encouraging signs shown at Valley Parade.

He said: “I went down to my local gym and someone said to me ‘I see you’ve been in the papers again’.

“It was complete news to me and I don’t know anything about it.

“The speculation doesn’t annoy me. It’s actually good news because it means we finished off the season well.

“By the end of the season, we’d put together some good results and I think we were joint top of the form table.

“If you get linked with things like that, it just means you’re doing something right.”

Taylor remains hard at work laying foundations for the forthcoming campaign at City.

After completing the signings of four players last week, he doesn’t expect any more imminent arrivals but currently has several irons in the fire.

He said: “I’m speaking to a lot of people at the moment and finding out what can be done and what can’t be done.

“I don’t expect to make any more additions within the next couple of weeks but then I could get a phone call within a couple of hours and things could change completely.

“We’ve made four signings already and, like I said last week, if we had to name a side now, I’d be confident in what we could put out.

“It was good to get some early business wrapped up but I’m still hopeful we can improve and I feel we probably need another three or four extra bodies yet.”

Another priority for Taylor remains completing deals for senior trio Simon Ramsden, Lee Bullock and Michael Flynn.

Ramsden and Bullock have already publicly pledged their futures to the club and Taylor is confident midfield mainstay Flynn will soon follow suit.

He said: “Lee Bullock has told me he wants to re-sign and the deal for Simon Ramsden is as good as done.

“We’ve still got to finalise things with Michael Flynn but I’m confident he’ll sign a new deal with us.”
