A late fightback by Silsden couldn’t prevent defeat as they went down 3-2 in their final Vodkat League Premier Division game of the season at Formby.

The reversal did not affect their 14th place finish but meant their hosts Formby moved up just one place and one point behind them.

Formby broke the deadlock midway through the first half when the Cobbydalers lost possession from their own throw-in. The ball was snaffled by Jamie Henders and his cross was turned in by John Lawless.

Just after the hour-mark, a low centre by Paul Hopkins gave Lawless the chance to net his second.

With 22 minutes left, Silsden got a foothold when a long throw-in by substitute Matthew Kershaw was flicked on and Jordan Barker scored.

Formby restored their two-goal lead when Charlie Jones lashed in a 25-yard volley.

Two minutes from time, a through ball from Chris Simpson found Jamie Longley and he advanced before sliding the ball under the home keeper.

The young Cobbydalers sought a late equaliser but to no avail.
