Frickley Athletic 1, Guiseley 2

Two Jamie Walshaw penalties rescued Guiseley’s title challenge as they edged to a nervous UniBond League win at Frickley Athletic to reclaim second place in the Premier Division.

There were few chances in the first half but the Lions broke the deadlock as they took the lead in the 17th minute. Adam Muller was fouled in the area and Walshaw fired in from the spot.

Walshaw got the ball in the net from open play just before the hour mark but his strike was ruled out for offside.

He did not have to wait long for his second goal though. Striker Muller went down in the area again in the 64th minute and Walshaw drilled the resultant penalty home.

Frickley did hit back two minutes later when Chris White lashed in a well-struck shot from the edge of the area.

Lions director Stuart Allen said: “It gives us everything to play for on Saturday but we have to win our home game against Ashton and hope Boston don’t win theirs at Marine.”

Thackley’S slender hopes of promotion to the UniBond League took a battering as they lost 4-2 at home to Kool Sport NCE League Premier Division champions elect Bridlington Town.

Brid clinched the title at the weekend but they did not drop their guard for the trip to Dennyfield. They built up a three-goal advantage before the break and the contest was over.

The visitors took the lead when Craig Hogg blasted in from close range. Frank Belt netted a direct free-kick on the half-hour mark and, just before the interval, Hogg rifled in his second with a shot from the right of the area.

Just four minutes into the second half, the Thackley keeper lost the flight of a cross and Tom Fleming slotted in Brid’s fourth goal.

There was a minor comeback in the last eight minutes. A header by Matt Mathers converted a Tom Higman cross and the same striker bagged himself a brace when he shot home three minutes later.

Thackley had Brid under pressure after that but it was too late for them to force the win that would have lifted them into second place.

LIVERSEDGE drew 1-1 at Selby Town after a second-half goal from Jamie Wasley levelled a Liam Radford effort before the break.

There was no such luck for ECCLESHILL UNITED, who were beaten 4-0 at home by promotion-chasing Leeds Carnegie in Division One.

SILSDEN have a rescheduled Vodkat League Premier Division fixture tomorrow night but they have had to give up home advantage because their rented Cougar Park base is unavailable. The game will be played at Colne FC instead.
