Striker jumped at chance to rejoin Taylor

Gavin Grant believes he can deliver a late-season goal burst for City.

The former Wycombe striker has made one fleeting appearance so far off the bench at Aldershot.

He is continuing to build up fitness after nearly a year out of the game through personal reasons and played for the reserves in midweek.

And Grant, who is at Valley Parade on a non-contract basis, is confident he can make an impact before the curtain comes down.

He said: “I can’t wait to get my first start. I want the opportunity to get out there and play more football.

“I’ve definitely got a few goals in my locker and hopefully I’ll get some here.”

Grant, 25, played under Peter Taylor at Stevenage and Wycombe and needed little persuasion to follow him north.

He said: “I jumped at the opportunity. I know how enormous the club is and there’s no way I could turn down that chance.

“It’s been brilliant since I arrived and the lads have welcomed me with open arms.

“I know Luke Oliver from our days at Stevenage and I played with Flynny (Michael Flynn) at Gillingham. He’s the heart and soul of the dressing room.”

Grant played the last 20 minutes at the Recreation Ground against today’s Valley Parade opponents but a late whack on the ankle briefly put his comeback on hold.

It was his first game since October 2008 and he admitted a few nerves were tingling.

Grant said: “It was a bit nervy at first but I was all right when I got my first touch. It was definitely a test for my lungs but I came through fine.

“I got rid of the cobwebs and that was it. I felt fit and ready to keep going.”

How big is his shirt on that picture. I know he's not match fit but surely he's not that fat.

Not too thrilled is he? Let's hope he doesn't have a Bebo page. Wouldn't want a repeat of that.

What were the "personal reasons" that kept him out of the game for a year? I assume it wasn't compassionate leave.....

these have been documented elsewhere on these pages: a long Old Bailey trail involving an alleged shooting offence. Someone reported he was found not guilty but the police were not looking for anyone else in connection with the offence. draw your own conclusions.

McCammon has been involved in a kinfing incident involving Moses Ashikode ( remember him)-- who is scoring a few goals currently.

I, personally, accept that people are innocent until proven guilty but.................
.............. are these the sorts of characters who should be wearing the claret and amber?..............

Thanks for the explanation. I understand what you mean about unsavoury characters playing for the club but Jamie Lawrence did ok for us didn't he?
I think the criteria used for signing those with a dodgy background should be whether they have actually tried to turn there lives around after making bad descions early in life.
