The possibility of two Bradford clubs meeting in the WEST RIDING COUNTY FA CHALLENGE CUP semi-finals were dashed as Campion slipped up 2-0 at home to County Amateur League Premier Division rivals Bay Athletic.

Albion Sports did their bit by edging through 3-2 after extra time against Leeds City but Campion were always up against it after conceding an early goal to Kitson Gayle. They had a golden opportunity to draw level but missed a penalty and, although Campion had plenty of possession, it was Bay who added a decisive second goal just before half-time through Brighton Mugadza.

The second half again belonged to Campion but their Huddersfield opponents held firm to book a last-four place.

Albion Sports set of at a blistering pace at home to West Yorkshire Association Premier Division side Leeds City and Alex Cusack fired them in front inside two minutes.

Rob Potter soon equalised but Asif Hussain restored the Bradford side’s advantage before the interval. Potter’s second goal sent the tie into overtime but Cusack also doubled up to secure Albion’s progress.

Huddersfield side Meltham Athletic were unable to book a semi-final place as they bowed out 2-0 at Knaresborough Town.

The league’s last two sides in the COUNTY FA CHALLENGE TROPHY were also both eliminated at the quarter-final stage.

Bay Athletic Reserves lost 2-1 at home to Keighley-based Oxenhope Recreation Reserves, while Storthes Hall Reserves slumped 6-1 to visitors Dewsbury side Thornhill.

Meanwhile, Wibsey – unbeaten in the league since September – held on to top spot in the PREMIER DIVISION with a 2-0 win at Lower Hopton thanks to strikes from Carl Horsman and Michael Garnett.

Marsden moved back into second place with a 2-1 home win over Halifax Irish but Tyersal, with only two points from their last nine games, missed out again as they lost 3-2 at Hall Green United.

The hosts built up a three-goal advantage with goals from James Laughton, Richard Hamnet and a Chris Callaghan penalty, before Tyersal restored some pride with replies by Ben Kendall and Graham Sides.

Ovenden West Riding, last season’s runners-up to Bay Athletic, moved up to fifth with a 3-1 home victory over struggling Ardsley Celtic, while Brighouse Town Reserves slipped up 4-2 at home to lowly Storthes Hall.

The clash between DIVISION ONE top two Hunsworth and Salts ended level at 2-2, with Lee Padgett and Dale Wright netting for the leaders and Wayne Walsh and Richard Magson responding.

Hunsworth remain seven points clear at the summit but there were high-scoring victories for three of the chasing pack.

Third-placed Ventus/Yeadon Celtic won 6-1 at bottom side Eastmoor, with Terry Hargreaves contributing a hat-trick.

Dave Armstrong netted four times for Bronte Wanderers as they won 7-2 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare, while Littletown overcame Overthorpe 6-4.

The top three sides in DIVISION TWO were without a fixture and West Horton took advantage by climbing to third with a 3-2 victory at Dudley Hill Athletic, who had built up a two-goal lead through Rob Catherall and Brendan Folan. Zulfiqar Ali, Ishtiaq Ali and a Catherall own goal turned the game on its head.

Campion Reserves won 4-2 at Rawdon Old Boys, with Andrew Hawker netting twice, while Crag Road United lost to Steeton Reserves for a second time in seven days as an Adam Spencer goal earned the Keighley side a 1-0 win.

Ovenden West Riding Reserves booked a semi-final place in the DIVISION THREE CUP with a 3-0 win at Salts Reserves. The Woodhouse brothers, Chris and Martin, and Craig Boothroyd were on target.
