Liversedge wrestled local bragging rights away from neighbours Thackley in the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Premier Division last week but both clubs will have to be on their toes this weekend.

Fifth-placed LIVERSEDGE host Winterton Rangers, who are two places lower but only one point worse off, and boss Sean Regan feels the form of Paul Walker is crucial to his side as they look to build on last week’s huge win over basement outfit Brodsworth.

Regan said: “I have been told that (9-2 victory) was the club’s biggest win for over 20 years – and it could have been more. We played well and the Brodsworth keeper had a good game and saved at least three times in one-on-one situations.

“Wacker (in-form striker Walker) scored five and was unselfish by bringing other players into play. He has 22 goals for us already this season and there was another club in for him after last weekend.

“The top and bottom of it is that he is enjoying it here and likes working with this squad we have built up. He is a key player but the rest of the lads are class as well and that’s why things are running smoothly at the moment.”

THACKLEY are also at home against a side hot on their heels, with Hall Road Rangers the Dennyfield opposition. The visitors trail the Reds by four points but have a game in hand, so the hosts cannot afford to slip up.

There is an interesting clash in the lower tier as rock-bottom ECCLESHILL UNITED host Tadcaster Albion, who are top of the pile.

Taddy have dropped only seven points so far this campaign while the Eagles have gained only five, with both having completed a dozen Division One fixtures.

Brighouse TOWN enjoyed a 4-0 home win last weekend, which took them up to ninth in the table and boosted confidence ahead of Saturday’s visit to Pontefract Collieries.

Town boss Mark Brier is taking nothing for granted. He is well aware that Ponte may be four places below his side but they have two games in hand and would be within a point of Brighouse should they win.

SILSDEN manager Chris Reape has his fingers crossed that Cougar Park will be fit for play so his side can take the momentum of back-to-back victories, and clean sheets, into Saturday’s game.

The Cobbydalers moved up to seventh in the Vodkat North West Counties League Premier Division with the two wins and are due to host struggling Alsager Town.

Reape said: “Last Saturday we were kicking our heels after our game was postponed. Most of the NCE League games were on while the majority in the NWC League were off, so it might help that we are at home because the weather forecast is very similar.”
