The red-hot form of Park Avenue’s frontmen meant boss John Deacey felt comfortable enough to lend his best-known striker to one of their league rivals.

Deacey loaned out former Premier Division striker Andy Campbell to Whitby Town this week.

The ex-Middlesbrough marksman needs games under his belt after struggling with injuries but a purple patch from Avenue’s other strikers means that must happen elsewhere.

Chris Hall, who has been struggling with an ankle injury, and Aiden Savory were short of their expected goal returns before Deacey took charge. But his decision to move Matty James from midfield to up front seems to have paid dividends for the other two.

With James playing the Wayne Rooney role, in support of the main striker, Hall netted twice in a 3-2 away victory at Stocksbridge.

Hall’s injury ruled him out of the next game but Savory came in to score two in a 3-2 win at Whitby Town.

Then last Saturday Avenue hosted bottom-of-the-table Durham City and ran out 7-1 victors as Savory lashed in a brace to move his total to 12 for the season.

Hall came off the bench late on and also netted twice, which took him into double figures.

Deacey said: “I have three forwards who are in red-hot form and one who has done very well when called on but needed more game-time to sharpen up.

“That’s why I let Andy go to Whitby Town on loan but he will be coming back.”

The Aveneue chief re-emphasised that Campbell, who once scored for Cardiff City in a play-off final at the Millennium Stadium, remains very much part of the set-up.

He said: “You let a class player like Andy go at your peril so that’s why he remains part of our plans.

“Last season we got caught out because we didn’t have enough forwards at the club for the run-in.

“I expect a couple of new signings to come in and when Andy comes back it will boost us even more.”
