Everybody laughs at the early rounds of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

But once you get closer and teams drop by the wayside, it does give you a buzz. The target is Wembley and that’s getting nearer all the time.

The two chairmen would never have accounted for making any money out of this so it would be a big bonus for Stuart’s kitty if City could go further.

And from a players’ point of view, it’s an opportunity to play at Wembley. That might never happen again.

You look at the finals in the past and the supporters love the day out. Luton won it last year and it was the highlight of their season.

Going to Wembley would attract new supporters as well and, I dare say, you’d get the ones coming back out of the woodwork who had stopped coming. It might give them the bug back in the long run.

I’m very much a believer that you’re in it to win it. So why shouldn’t City be serious about going all the way?

And I’ve got half an eye on a Leeds and Bradford northern area final, home and away. Mark and Julian wouldn’t be the only ones counting the pound signs if that happened – I’m sure Ken Bates would feel exactly the same way.
