The Celts are on the verge of emulating Southampton by climbing off the foot of their respective division after a ten-point deduction for going into administration.

The former Premiership outfit raised themselves out of the basement of Coca-Cola League One last Saturday and Farsley – just a point behind second-from-bottom Redditch – could do the same with a win over Vauxhall Motors tomorrow.

Celts first-team coach and youth-team manager Mark Jackson believes the club deserve to shed the tag of wooden-spoon holders.

“We have battled well in the opening two months of the season and if we can maintain the consistency we have had, we will start to move up,” said former Leeds United and Rochdale defender Jackson.

“The lads have buckled down and they probably deserve the psychological boost that moving off the bottom of the league would bring.

“We have been playing some great stuff and have picked up nine points from the last three games.”

Jackson, who admits the club have benefited from two free weeks to work with the players on the training ground, added: “We have two forwards that scare defences and will get goals in any division.

“Our captain is back after a toe injury and others have played well in central midfield in his absence, so we have a bit of competition for places for a change.”
