There could be some new faces in the Bradford Park Avenue line-up for Saturday's trip to Stocksbridge Park Steels in the UniBond League Premier Division.

Manager John Deacey has only overseen one game since being placed in sole charge for a second spell, and he was not impressed.

Last Saturday, Avenue slipped apologetically out of the FA Trophy to lower-ranking opponents.

That was enough for Deacey, back in charge following the resignation of Lee Sinnott, to make his mind up. He had been the former Bantams defender’s assistant, so has been closely involved.

Speaking after Saturday’s defeat, Deacey said: “These players have had enough time to prove themselves and they are just not putting in enough effort. If they can’t produce the goods, then its time they were on their way.”

Once the dust had settled on that latest setback in Avenue’s disappointing start to the campaign, Deacey remained determined. The club’s chief executive Bob Blackburn backed his manager.

“John has asked for more players and given us a list to work with - as a board we have sanctioned that. It is a tight timescale but we may have two of his targets in time for the game at Stocksbridge,” said Blackburn on Wednesday.

The Sheffield side are ten places higher than their Bradford visitors but only seven points better off and they have played three more league fixtures than Avenue.

Stocksbridge started well and were the early pacesetters but have encountered problems of their own and had a change of manager.

Deacey insists on bolstering his squad and is on the lookout for new recruits in every department. He said: “It’s obvious that, for some reason, this mix of players isn’t working so we have to bring something new to the club.

“I wish I could focus on one particular area to strengthen but all areas are giving me as much concern. When you look through the side, there are players underperforming all over the pitch.

“These players don’t want it enough and they have been found out. There are others out there who would love the opportunity to play for a club of this size and stature and I’m prepared to bring them and give them their chance.

“They won’t do any worse than the ones who have let Lee down, the club and, it has to be said, themselves.”
