Albion Sports are picking up after a hesitant start to the West Riding County Amateur League season and three key recruits all made a scoring contribution in their latest PREMIER DIVISION victory.

Two defeats in the first three games prompted Sports to add experienced trio Simon Parke, Joel Ettienne and Jay Sobers to their squad.

Since then they have picked up ten points in three games, including a 1-1 draw with defending champions Bay Athletic and Saturday’s 5-0 romp against Kirkburton.

Parke netted twice, with Ettienne and Sobers also on target as well as pre-season signing Alex Cusack to leave their side fifth in the table.

Tyersal, who were on a high after beating leaders Marsden the previous weekend, twice led Bay with goals from Alan Morley junior.

But they could not stop the second-placed title favourites returning to Huddersfield with a 3-2 victory as Paul Pike matched Morley’s double.

Joe Brooksbank scored for Wibsey but it came too late to spark a comeback as leaders Marsden returned to winning ways 2-1 thanks to goals by Andrew Allinson and Mathew Poulain. Campion remain fourth after a comfortable 3-1 victory at Ardsley Celtic, with Joe Brown (2) and Ben O’Melia on target.

Brighouse Town picked up their first points of the season with a surprising 4-1 success at Ovenden West Riding.

Lee Burgess (2) and Dave McGuire scored in the second half after Chris Dennison’s opener had been cancelled out by Ovenden’s Mick Palethorpe.

Hunsworth continue to lead the way in DIVISION ONE after four successive victories, their latest a 4-0 home win over rock-bottom Keighley Shamrocks as Dale Wright and Lee Padgett both scored twice.

Second-placed Overthorpe surrendered their perfect start as they went down 3-2 at previously pointless Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Bronte Wanderers and Salts both remain unbeaten after sharing six goals. Dave Armstrong (2) and a Mark Fernie og for Bronte were cancelled out by Declan Corby (2) and Pat Brosman. Dudley Hill Rangers just came out on top in a nine-goal thriller at Wakefield City, with the Sharkey brothers Daniel (2) and Adam backed up by further goals from Wayne Chippendale and Ryan Templeton.

Littletown were also among the goals, beating Eastmoor 7-2 as four from Simon Bentley were supported by Lee Davey (2) and Duane Bywood.

Ventus/Yeadon Celtic opened their season with two successive victories but have since slipped up 3-2 twice in two weeks, the latest after leading 2-1 at Heckmondwike Town.

Rob Hiscox took top honours with a hat-trick for Town after two Celtic strikes from Anthony Hannan.

Tyersal Reserves came out on top 2-1 Steeton, who saw Lee Reilly’s goal doubled by Mathew Addy and Pat Mumbley.

The top of Division Two is dominated by reserve sides of teams in the top two divisions, the only exception being Westbrook YMCA, who recorded their third consecutive win with a 2-0 victory at Morley Town.

They stay in joint top place alongside Bay Athletic Reserves, who beat Rawdon Old Boys by 3-2, and Campion Reserves, who had Duran Thompson and Lewis Ettienne on target in their 2-0 home success over Golcar United Reserves.

Dudley Hill Athletic have no problem scoring goals, with six goals in their three games ,but are suspect in defence having conceded 14, their latest defeat being by 6-2 at home to Steeton Reserves.

Goals galore in Division Three, with Ventus Yeadon Celtic Reserves winning 7-0 at home to Bronte Wanderers Reserves, with Andrew Boltwood and Ryan Lambert both scoring hat-tricks. Newcomers Huddersfield YMCA also hit the net seven times in beating Littletown Reserves 7-1.

The Reserve sides of Albion Sports and Salts pitched in with five goals apiece, Albion beating Wakefield City Res 5-2, and Salts turning over Heckmondwike Town Res 5-1.
