Two Premier Division sides bowed out to lower-ranked opponents as the Bradford Sunday Alliance League concentrated on cup action at the weekend.

Silsden and Baildon Trinity Athletic were the major SENIOR CUP victims as Wyke Wanderers and Ventus United defied their Division One status.

Player-manager James Cooke struck a late winner for Wyke as they saw off Silsden 2-1 after team-mate Ian Bell had seen his opener cancelled out by Phil Rishton.

Meanwhile, Ventus powered to an emphatic 6-1 victory at Trinity.

League champions Buttershaw White Star looked set to join the list of shocks as they fell two goals behind against Division One hosts Allerton.

But Miguel Burkett and Jody Compton saw their goals outweighed by John Selby (2), Aston Mezurk and Chris Graham as White Star hit back strongly.

Premier Division top scorers West Bowling continued their prolific form in the cup as Damian Melvyn’s hat-trick set up a 7-1 romp at Dudley Hill Rangers.

Joe Brogan, Scott Marsden, Patsy Hollinger and Chris Wood ensured the Division One side bowed out.

Other Premier teams to make progress at the expense of Division One opponents were Relay Recruitment Rovers at home to White Eagles (4-2) and Bolton Woods at Oakworth Juniors (3-0).

The only all-Premier tie went to extra time before defending champions Ventus Sports edged out Oakenshaw 3-2 thanks to strikes by Neil Murray and Stuart Waite and an own goal.

Cuedos Rangers beat fellow Division One side Prospect Rovers 2-0 thanks to inspired goalkeeping from Stuart Clough, with Daniel Duckworth and Daniel Lawler supplying their goals.

The match between Campion Park Avenue and Queensbury was abandoned after 83 minutes due to an injury, with Queensbury leading 2-1 at the time.

An Aaron Parsons hat-trick, backed up by Peter O’Hagan (2) and Craig Pinder, earned Thackley Shoulder a 6-2 win against Bolton Woods Reserves in the INTERMEDIATE CUP for sides from the lower divisions.

Wibsey WMC needed extra time to see off battling Stocks Lane United 6-4, with Carl Yewdall and Kevin Saunders both netting twice for the winners.

Defending champions Buttershaw Celtic also needed extra time to go through after another high-scoring tie, Jamie McKewan’s brace proving key to a 6-5 win against George Hotel.

Great Horton took the lead at home to Gaping Goose but eventually lost 6-1 as Andy Garland scored twice, while Curtis Bray’s double for Prospect was to no avail as they surrendered 9-2 to Great Northern.

Ricky Simpson’s hat-trick helped Mill Lane demolish Ravenscliffe 11-2 and Billy Bingham’s treble for Fiddlers Three secured a 6-2 victory over Allerton B.
