Hinckley United 4, Farsley Celtic 1

Farsley are still looking to register their first plus point of the season after a fourth opportunity passed them by yesterday.

The Celts erased their ten-point penalty within the first six games but there was no reward from this tenth Blue Square North game of the season.

The score-line suggests a big win for the home side but that does not tell the whole story.

Farsley took the game to the home side from the off and controlled the opening quarter. In that spell, Dave Syers had two good chances to open the scoring.

Syers’ first effort was a close-range shot that went just wide and his second was a header that was fractionally over the target. The misses proved costly for the Celts as they found themselves four goals behind at the interval.

Against the run of play midway through the first half, Matt West capitalised on a defensive error and lashed a shot in from the edge of the area, with Andy Hall heading in Hinckley’s second minutes later.

A well-struck curling shot from Neil Cartwright followed and a slalom run by Andy Gooding took him round defenders and the keeper before slotting in the fourth on the stroke of half-time.

Farsley won the second half 1-0 but the consolation did not come until five minutes from time. A cross picked out Simeon Bambrook and he headed the ball back across the area for Lee Ellington to nod in.

Celts boss Neil Parsley said: “We are disappointed to come away from Hinckley with nothing but we are getting punished for every individual mistake at the moment.

“We did very well until they scored but to concede another three goals in such a short time after that is poor. The lads showed pride and I can’t point the finger at any of the squad for lack of effort.

“The bottom line is that we have lost four on the spin now, which is unfortunate as we may have been in those games.

“It is time for changes. It is down to me and Jacko (assistant manager Mark Jackson) to stop the rot. We can’t sit back and let it ride because we have to do what is best for the club.

“There is nothing wrong with the effort from the players or the work-rate within the unit but we have got to eradicate these individual errors because at this level of football it is going to cost you.”
