Thackley 1, Liversedge 2

Thackley paraded two new signings in their starting line-up but they could not help earn a win over Liversedge in the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Premier Division derby.

The Reds had Adam Fretwell in central midfield and Joe Appleyard in the centre of their defence. They also had Jerome White starting at right back following his return to Dennyfield from a brief spell with Silsden.

Sedge, who were deserved winners, hit the woodwork early on when Jermaine Moyce fired an angled shot that rebounded off the post.

Thackley’s Jordan Yorath was the busier of the two keepers in the first half and he was beaten in the 35th minute when Jake Lawler cracked a 30-yard shot into the bottom corner.

The home side almost equalised five minutes later but Sedge keeper Karl Dean did well to deflect Joel Birks’ point-blank shot for a corner.

Three minutes into the second half, Sedge forced a corner and stretched their lead. The first header following the flag-kick was blocked by Yorath but he was powerless as Moyce headed the loose ball past him.

Thackley had a good spell and should have reduced the arrears in the 55th minute. A free-kick from Birks rattled the crossbar, Andrew Fox gathered the ball and was fouled in the area but Rob Ward fired the resulting penalty wide.

Phil Reynolds did finally earn a consolation when he netted four minutes from time.
