Following the postponement of their FA Trophy first-round tie at Burton Albion at the weekend, Farsley Celtic are preparing to make the journey on Tuesday night after it was swiftly rearranged.

The Celts did not have to make the trip on Saturday because the pitch inspection was made at 11am. It was the fifth postponement on the trot for Farsley and it has thrown their fixture schedule into chaos.

The tie being switched to the first available midweek night means the West Riding County Cup clash at Wakefield is put back yet again – which means there is no reprieve for midfielder Dominic Krief.

He is waiting to serve a suspension for an accumulation of five yellow cards. It is only a one-game ban but it has been hanging over him for more than three weeks. That is how long it has been since the Celts saw action.

Burton also have a key player sidelined. Midfielder John McGrath was sent off last Tuesday night when Burton beat Cambridge United 3-1. He will also have no opportunity to serve his one-game ban before the FA Trophy tie.

On Saturday the Celts host Stafford Rangers, who parted company with their manager Steve Bull before the weekend.

The former England international and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ legendary goal- scorer is a victim of cost-cutting by the Midlands outfit.

It is yet another sign that the current economic climate is affecting the non-league clubs every bit as much as their Football League counterparts.

Cammell Laird would have been hoping to join the likes of Farsley when they began the season but have had to slash their budget. The UniBond Premier Division club have reverted to amateur status after losing their main financial backer.

The move means they have had to allow all contracted players to leave the club.

Goole FC’s UniBond Division One South season is in tatters after they slipped into administration, sparking a ten-point deduction which has dropped them into the relegation zone.
