HEWENDEN AC: Pike fishing is excellent at the moment with plenty of fish in the 14-17lb bracket. New member Byron Pollard took a lovely fish of 20lb 2oz on a plug from peg 26. The biggest fish of the season so far was taken by another new member, Fred Dunn, with a fish of 22lb from peg 14. Best baits, roach and lamprey. A special mention must go to one of our junior anglers, Joshua Sawyer, nine, who took a pike of 18lb from peg 26 on roach. Result of the match fished on October 12: 1 L Simpson 5lb 1oz; 2 Mouse 5lb ½oz.

LISTERHILLS AA: Last week’s match at Beavers Bridge was the second of the winter series. Winner was E Harrison with 7lb 6½oz, followed by D Jackson (3lb 9oz). Catches were mostly perch with a few roach. The next match of the series and the last trophy match of the year is at Pilley’s Dam on November 2. Pike anglers fishing on the canal at Rodley should have a second rod permit when using two rods. Day tickets are available from Sutcliffe’s newsagents at Rodley and should be obtained before fishing.

WASHBURN VALLEY: Catch details for week ending October 19 – Day ticket: Fewston 23, Swinsty 7. Total fish caught: Fewston 50, Swinsty 19. Average per rod: Fewston 2.2, Swinsty 2.7. The heaviest fish caught was a 6lb rainbow trout by Geoff Jefferson using PTN. Fewston and Swinsty: fish sitting in deeper waters on these cold mornings beginning to move and feed as the temperature rises. Once on the feed, fish rising to take buzzers and nymph. PTN, Kate McCarew are perfect imitations. Thruscross closed season.

ECCLESHILL AS: Next match to be held at Langwith lakes on Wednesday, draw 9am. Due to the demand for tickets, both Kevins and Bethanys lakes will be used. A decision will be made on the morning on the organisers’ request for a ‘near peg’. After several recounts of the points, we would like to congratulate the KL Tackle team and their invited ringers on their narrow victory in the challenge match. Unfortunately, the trophy has been misplaced but Dave has accepted a mounted sheep trophy as a replacement. This should look good in the Keighley tackle shop’s display cabinet.

SALTAIRE AA: This Sunday is the first open match on the canal. To book on please phone Richard on 07815-092966. This year’s annual meeting will be held on Monday, November 10 at the Ring of Bells in Saltaire. All members are welcome and must provide their year books.
