Steve McNamara admits Michael Platt has now paid heavily for his “foolish” sin-binning against Leeds.

The Bulls full back was handed a three-match ban tonight for headbutting Rhinos’ Brent Webb and punching Rob Burrow during Friday’s Super League game.

Platt only received a yellow card after the fifth-minute flare-up but now misses the rest of the season after being ordered to face the Rugby Football League disciplinary.

They found him guilty and dished out the stern penalty as well as a £300 fine.

The scrap erupted when Platt gave Scott Donald a “facial” after tackling the Leeds winger and he reacted violently when Rhinos players intervened.

McNamara said: “Michael was foolish putting his hand on Donald’s head when he was getting up.

“And, after that, while I’m all for the players sticking up for each other and showing passion, he crossed the line.

“He knows it’s not acceptable to conduct yourself like that and he has paid severely for his actions.

“His team-mates will do as well and he’s well aware of that.”

Platt misses Sunday’s home game with Hull FC as well as Bradford’s remaining fixtures against Hull KR and Castleford as they fight to cement a top-six spot.

He will only return if his team-mates reach the play-offs without him.

“Michael was really up for the game but let his emotions overcome him,” said McNamara.

“He regrets what he did and is certainly very disappointed in his reaction to being punched and held back by the Leeds player.”

Platt, 24, earned a two-game ban for punching St Helens’ Maurie Fa’asavalu last season and escaped a ban but was fined in May for pushing an opponent - Donald again - into advertising hoardings.

Hull’s Gareth Raynor, meanwhile, will miss the game at Bradford after being given a one-match ban for striking in their defeat to Huddersfield.
