Leeds United are understood to have agreed a fee for Wolves striker Jay Bothroyd, who has yet to agree to the move.

The 6ft 3in Bothroyd, 26, was a junior at Arsenal before spells at Coventry, Perugia, Blackburn (loan), Charlton, Wolves and Stoke (loan).

Manager Gary McAllister has already recruited Enoch Showunmi to strengthen his strikeforce and Bothroyd would compete with Showunmi, Tresor Kandol and Bradford born Fabian Delph for the job of partnering last season’s top scorer Jermaine Beckford.

Goalkeeper David Lucas, who has yet to make a pre-season appearance for United, is doubtful for Sunday's game in Dublin against Bray Wanderers.

While rival keepers Casper Ankergren and Alan Martin have gained match practice against York and Galway United, Lucas has been carrying a slight injury which could keep him out of the game before McAllister’s men complete their tour at Shelbourne on Thursday night.

Young Canadian striker Marcus Haber is hoping for a longer opportunity to impress after playing less than half an hour against Galway.

McAllister said: “Marcus did okay in the short time he was on the field in Galway. He is available on a free transfer and we are taking a good look at him.

“The plan is that most of the players who were substitutes on Wednesday night will start against Bray.”

United left their Galway training base today and headed for the outskirts of Dublin, where they will be based for the rest of the tour.
