WOODLANDS captain Brad Schmulian is revelling at the opportunity to collect a fourth consecutive Bradford Premier League title with his side this weekend.

The champions take on Farsley at home today and need only seven points from their remaining two fixtures to be crowned top dogs once again.

“On a personal level, it would be an amazing accolade to win a 4th title in just my 4th year at the club,” said Schmulian.

“In terms of the team and the club, some might almost take it for granted now, but it’s a great achievement to win four back-to-back titles at any level of sport. Some clubs have won a couple of trophies in their history, so to win four consecutively is just brilliant.”

Ahead of this weekend’s game with Farsley, Schmulian has urged his side to wrap up the title as quickly as possible.

He said: “In a couple of the cup competitions, we’ve been unsuccessful recently but we have been in touching distance of winning the league for the last couple of weeks now.

“So, the focus is to get the league tied up as quickly as possible and then hopefully move onto the Yorkshire playoff games.

“There will be some nerves, but it helps that we are at home. As captain, I’ll do my best to lead by example and then hopefully, that will help to take the pressure off the other guys.”

Schmulian added: “We’ve won the league in each of the last three seasons, so we’re experienced in these types of situations, while we’ve found ourselves in much harder situations compared to the one that we’ll have to face on Saturday and heading into the last week.

“The guys are experienced enough to go out there and get the job done; they don’t really need my guidance. The experience everyone has gained from the past three title wins can only be a positive thing for us and because of that, our nerves won’t be nearly as bad as they should be.”

Woodlands only require seven points in their last two fixtures to be crowned champions, however, they face a tough opponent this weekend in Farsley who occupy 4th place in the Bradford Premier Division.

Schmulian said: “It’s going to be a challenge for us because Farsley are a good all-round side. They’ve got a lot of pace and they’ve got a steady attack, so if you’re not on your top game, then they can punish you.

“They have a reputation of getting some good results against some of the best teams in the division, so it’s a game we always look at in the fixture list as a tough test.”

If Woodlands do claim their 4th consecutive Bradford Premier League title this weekend, Schumilan admitted that celebrations may need to be tamed a little.

He said: “It’s tough to know (what the celebrations will look like) because we have a game on Sunday against Hanging Heaton, so they might be fairly subdued on Saturday with an eye on making them greater when the season ends.

“The celebrations at the club would be very big because it’s a big achievement to win four league titles in a row, so everyone would be extremely proud. At the moment, we remain focused on getting the job done and then we can celebrate from there.”
