ELDWICK & Gilstead continue to lead the way in their Wynn Cup group.

They won a low-scoring encounter at home to Thornton-in-Craven to make it three victories from as many matches in the Mewies Solicitors Craven League’s blue-riband competition.

The twin villages opted to bat but could only make 131, with three players being dismissed in the twenties – Matthew Sharp (20), Mihir Dighe (23) and Chris Child (22) – as they collapsed from 91-3.

However, the men from the Lancashire-Yorkshire border could not cope with the three-pronged attack of Sharp (3-12), Child (3-41) and Kieren Temprell (2-5) and were dismissed for 101.

Hepworth & Idle are second after an easy victory at home to Long Lee, who were dismissed for 122 after winning the toss at Westfield Lane, with Jonny Thompson taking 5-32 and brothers Jonathan and Alex Robinson 2-19 and 2-20 respectively.

Opener Nigel Poustie (43no) then batted through as the hosts won by eight wickets in the 31st over, adding 75 for the second wicket with Simon Raistrick (43) after Jack Bedford had scored 24.

Haworth Road Meths also triumphed, by six wickets, after the shock of losing both openers for ducks at home to Wilsden.

The visitors scored 175 after winning the toss, with Chris Longley (50) and Matthew D’arcy-Brain (31) getting them off to a fine start, backed up by Glenn Stableford (22).

But two wickets apiece for Thomas Kaznowski, Goher Ayoub, Mohammed Sajjad and Rehan Ahmed ensured a manageable chase for Meths.

Deepal Dissanayake proved the man for the job for the hosts, scoring an unbeaten 86, Fahim Khan chipping in with 30 as Bryn Pacey took 2-28.

In the other group, Bowling Baptist are second from bottom after going down by 61 runs at home to Silsden, who made 131, with Arslan Hussain taking 3-5, Muhammad Zeeshan Tariq 2-15 and Ishtiaq Raza 2-35.

Baptist were then rolled over for 70, with Tariq (18) and Akhtar Mahmood (12) making double figures.

In the John Clayton Cup, Bradford & Bingley went down by nine wickets at Silsden II after making 177-6, Shahbaz Ahmed (46) adding 71 for the third wicket with James Crossley (27).

Skipper Farhan Khalid contributed 26 but that seemed small fry when the Cobbydalers replied with 178-1 in just 26.2 overs.

Bowling Baptist got off the mark with a fine five-wicket victory at Haworth II, who made a creditable 193-8, with the victims being shared between Asad Hussain (3-34), Muhammad Awais (2-29) and Imran Muzafar (2-38).

Ghazanfar Bashir then played outstandingly, making 94 not out, including 16 fours and two sixes, as the visitors won in the 31st over.

Farkhan Ali (23no) accompanied him at the end after Ovace Munir had made 29 and Muhammad Ibrar 24.

Hepworth & Idle III had one of the shortest matches of the day, skittling Glusburn II for 43, Saeed Rahman (5-9) being backed up by Zach Holland (2-2) and 14-year-old Finley Matthews (2-16).

Bradley Elliott (21no) and Sean McEvoy (19no) then saw the Westfield Laners home inside nine overs without loss.

Hepworth & Idle’s second strings also won, by five wickets at Cowling II, in the Cowling Cup.

Owen Price took 3-31 in Cowling’s 119-6 and the visitors triumphed in the 15th over after Yousaf Iqbal had made 31, Glen Pinkney 24 and Joe Allatt an unbeaten 27, with Iqbal and Pinkney adding 48 for the second wicket.

Hepworth & Idle II had a double weekend, also thrashing Bradley II by 121 runs after making 195-5 upon winning the toss.

Chris Hawksworth scored 56 off 34 balls, including nine fours and a six, while lesser contributions came from Iqbal (22), Phil Haigh (23) and skipper Mikey Newell (25no).

Muhammad Abdullah (3-22) and Dave Dunne (2-6) then got among the wickets as Bradley were castled for 74.

Bingley Congs III came unstuck at home to Denholme II after making 137-6, with the in-form trio of Shahid Mahmood (34), Waj Mahmood (37) and Jordan Robinson (32) leading the way.

Denholme won by seven wickets in the 19th over, with Josh Wheatley (34) surviving having his bails clunked by an Yvonne Baines delivery without them falling off.

Wilsden II lost by eight wickets in the 16th over at home to Airedale II, who restricted the hosts to 123, despite Abdul Basit Mahmood making 50 off 43 balls, including nine fours, adding 51 for the second wicket with Huw Pacey (17).
