A squad of City of Bradford’s open age and youth swimmers, who all train with Bradford Aquatics Competition Programme, travelled to Ponds Forge in Sheffield over two weekends to compete in the North East Region Open and Youth Championships.

Medals were hard to come by for City’s swimmers in the youth events, however it was Samantha Knowles who claimed a fourth-place finish in the 50m backstroke and sixth in the longer 100m event.

Next in line was Robbie Ambler with a fifth-place finish in the 50m breaststroke and Jasmine Shay secured a fifth-place finish in the 50m breaststroke and a top-10 finish in the 100m butterfly.

Seasoned finalist Alex Dunn claimed fifth in the 50m freestyle and eighth in the 100m freestyle.

Also a regular finalist, Sophia Gledhill finished in sixth place in the 200m butterfly and eighth in the 200m backstroke.

Quinn-Austin Kelly was another top-10 finisher with a sixth place in the 200m breaststroke and 10th in the shorter 100m event.

Eighth-place finishes went to Imogen Tiffany and Will Skiggs, with the latter’s time of 29.38 in the 50m backstroke a new club record.

Imogen also finished in ninth place in the 200m breaststroke.

Although outside the top 10, Freddy Dean’s time of 1.03.43 in the 100m backstroke was a new club record.

In the open backstroke events. Gina Warrior finished in seventh place in both the 50m and 100m backstroke.

With two club records, numerous personal best times and improved national qualifying consideration times the remainder of the season looks bright for City’s swimmers.
