A SQUAD of City of Bradford’s top swimmers competed in the prestigious City of Derby long course meet, held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield over the weekend of January 14 and 15.

City’s swimmers were chasing qualifying times for future meets, as well as medals, on this occasion and top three finishes proved hard to come by.

Swimming in the 9/10 years age group, it was Isabelle Randhawa who stole the limelight.

She placed in the silver medal position in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1.24.13 and claimed a bronze in the 100m freestyle with a time of 1.19.27.

In the 13/14 year age group, Freddy Dean came seventh in the 100m freestyle, but it was his time of 29.89 in the open 50m backstroke in which he claimed new 15/16 years club record.

Gina Warrior had a top 10 finish in the open 50m backstroke and came 11th in the longer 100m event.

Also claiming a top 10 finish was Will Skiggs in the 13/14 years 100m backstroke.

He then went on to come 12th in the 100m butterfly event.

Competing in the girls 13/14 years 100m butterfly, Jasmine Shay finished 10th in a time of 1.10.19.

Other top 20 placings went to Sophia Gledhill (4), Amy Hagyard (2), Evelyn Gledhill (1), and Samantha Knowles (1).

All the swimmers train with the Bradford Aquatics Competition Programme under the guidance of Sarah Fisher and Andy Pearce.
