A third-round 70 was the highlight for Bradford's Gareth Evans on his England debut in the European Nations Championship in Spain.
That came after opening scores of 79 and 74 before a final-day 75 as England finished down the field in ninth place in the four-man team event at Sotogrande.
England had finished equal second for the last three seasons but were hindered by illness to key man Gary Wolstenholme, who missed the last day with flu.
With three out of four scores to count, Evans came in three times and was pleased with his game tee to green but not always with his putting.
The Northcliffe member said: "I hit the ball well all week but I didn't putt well on the last day. The greens were so fast - they were absolute lightning.
"If you were above the hole, you could knock it off the green. It was a fantastic experience though."
Scotland won the team event by five shots from Ireland, for whom Shane Lowry won the individual competition. Rising star Rory McIlroy won it last season.
Evans is back in action for Yorkshire in a friendly against Nottinghamshire at Hollinwell on Saturday, along with Baildon's Tom Usher.
