Gary McAllister is house-hunting in Yorkshire after landing a new 12-month rolling contract at Leeds United.

Manager McAllister, 43, was originally hired by chairman Ken Bates until the end of the season, with instructions to land promotion to the Championship.

However, with Leeds one place outside the play-off zone, Bates has seen enough to reward the popular Scot with a longer deal.

Assistant manager Steve Staunton and first-team coach Neil McDonald have also had their contracts extended, and McAllister said: "The club are giving us a fair crack.

"It is a show of faith in the three of us and it took me all of two seconds to say yes to the new contract.

"This is one of the top ten jobs in the country even though we are in the third tier of English football at the moment.

"I will be moving back to live in Yorkshire, and my eldest son is delighted because he was born here when I was a player at Leeds."

McAllister believes an end to the uncertainty over his own future can only help the team.

"There is a wee bit of continuity and the players know where they stand," he said.

"They are fully aware of the direction in which we are trying to take the club. I feel results could have been better - we have had too many draws - but the chairman has seen improvements around the place.

"I have tried to introduce the players to a few things based on my experience of playing in the Premiership and working under some of the game's top managers.

"We can still take things up a few notches - I am sure there is more in the players' locker."

Since McAllister took charge, Leeds have won four, drawn five and lost two of their 11 League One matches, and he added: "It has been a rough ride for Leeds United. They have been through a lot and it has been quite worrying but I believe Leeds United are on their way back.

"It is still going to be a long process but the worst has gone."

United visit Leyton Orient on Saturday with David Prutton and Darren Kenton back in their squad after missing the 1-0 win at Doncaster through injury.

However, Rui Marques is again ruled out and left back Alan Sheehan makes his last appearance before a two-match ban for reaching ten bookings.

McAllister said: "Orient will be trying to get a good run going between now and the end of the season.

"As the home team, the onus will be on them to attack, which is why I have no fears about travelling away from Elland Road.

"We have more away games than home matches coming up, but that might just help us."
