CITY of Bradford’s swimmers had a successful Yorkshire Championships, coming home with 10 medals, 17 club records, five national qualification times and a plethora of final placings.

Swimming in the 16 years age group, it was Gina Warrior who claimed City’s highest placing with gold in the 50m backstroke in a time of 31.02.

This time was both a club record and a British Championship qualifying time.

She also claimed silver in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1.07.02, which was also a club record, bronze in the 200m event, again in a new club record time of 2.25.82, and seventh in the 200m individual medley.

Next in line was 14-year-old Sophia Gledhill, with silver in the 100m and 200m backstroke, and bronze in the 200m individual medley, and 50m and 100m butterfly.

She added to her tally with four further top-10 finishes.

Alex Dunn swam a well-paced race to claim silver in the girls’ 15 years 50m breaststroke and also finished with four other top-10 finishes.

In the girls’ 17 years and over category, Rebecca Dunn claimed a fourth and two fifth places in times of 2.43.64, 1.16.91 and 35.38 respectively in the 200m, 100m and 50m breaststroke.

Her 100m time was a new club record and the 50m and 200m times were both club records and national qualifying times.

In the boys’ events, it was 13-year-old Harry Schmidt who finished in the medals with a bronze in the 200m backstroke and he also went on to claim three further top-10 finishes.

Fraser Buxton broke the club record in the 17 years and over 50m freestyle in a time of 24.84 and his time was also a national qualifying time.

In the same age group 50m breaststroke event, Cameron Mander swam to a national qualifying time of 31.50. He also recorded another top-10 finish.

Other top ten finishes went to Robbie Ambler (3) Freddy Dean (4), Jakub Marszewski (2) and Ciara O’Carroll (1).

Four of the club’s medley and freestyle teams also featured in the top-10 finishes.

All of the swimmers train on the Bradford Aquatics Competition programme under the guidance of coaches Andy Pearce and Sarah Fisher.
