New assistant Wayne Benn is well aware of the high expectations at Nethermoor.

Benn spent most of his career playing in Bradford, first learning his craft with the Bantams before featuring for almost a decade at neighbours Park Avenue.

And he remembers his current club being the most established local one outside the Football League during that time.

He said: "When I was at Bradford, with both City and Avenue, Guiseley were the biggest non-league club in the area.

"They were knocking on the door of what was then the Conference with people like Frank Worthington, Garry Watson, Bobby Davison and Neil Parsley as players who went on to manage the club.

"That tells you what the town and the supporters expect from its club.

"Steve Kittrick and myself are determined to make a good fist of moving Guiseley onto the next level but at the same time we are not kidding ourselves about the pressures.

"The expectancy is massive but the signs are encouraging. Our one aim is to be in the play-offs at the end of the season and be successful by winning promotion."

Benn - of whom former T&A Bradford City reporter David Markham said was the best player he knew not to have made it in the Football League - is delighted to be back in the area, despite a disappointing start since he and Kittrick took over from Terry Dolan.

He said: "The one thing that is missing so far is that bit of luck. But it will come because the squad is packed with quality, they are an honest bunch and others will be signed to boost our push.

"It has been a frustrating start but I'm enjoying it. The feedback from the majority of the fans has been very positive. The board have also showed us that they feel they made the best appointment and will back us."
