The Eagles' wings were well and truly clipped at Hallam's Sandygate Road in the city of steel tonight.
United were bidding to overhaul their NCE Premier Division rivals but it was the Sheffield outfit who strengthened their position.
Rob Ward opened the scoring after just four minutes and added the only other first-half strike just after the half-hour.
Two goals in as many minutes midway through the second half, from Scott Bates and James Tevondale, finished the contest.
Tevondale made it a brace for himself 13 minutes from time and Will Tomlinson added the last late on.
