Former FA Cup winners Leeds United appear in the first round for the first time in 82 years tomorrow night, with Dennis Wise banished to the stand at Hereford.

The manager starts a three-match touchline ban for remarks made to referee Danny McDermid at Gillingham on September 29.

So assistant Dave Bassett, who sat in the stand at Bournemouth on Tuesday night, exchanges roles with Wise just over a week after filling the gap left by Gus Poyet's departure to Tottenham.

Wise said: "We'll chop and change this year. Sometimes I will sit in the stand, with Dave down in the dugout. He sometimes sees games slightly differently from me and it's good to have an older head around."

Leeds won the trophy for the first and only time in 1972. The last time they appeared in the first round they lost 3-0 at Liverpool back in 1925 and they have been knocked out at the third-round stage in five of the last six seasons.

Wise knows in-form League Two side Hereford provide another banana skin but is considering making changes, despite a convincing 3-1 win at Bournemouth.

He said: "Hereford will cause us problems. They won 5-1 at the weekend and won again on Tuesday.

"Some of our players have had a lot of games, so it may do them good to have a rest. It is an opportunity for one or two to come in and show what they can do."

Skipper Alan Thompson could return in midfield after missing four games with a torn hamstring.

Striker Tresor Kandol, whose two goals at Bournemouth took him to eight for the season, knows Leeds are there to be shot at.

"All the teams we play are up for it and Hereford will be no different," he said.

"We know we can beat anyone and keep confidence high. We won't change our approach against Hereford, we stay positive by going all out to win every game."
