Peter Thorne will throw his hat in the ring to take City's next penalty.

Chester goalkeeper John Danby saved Nicky Law's effort yesterday - their second missed spot-kick at home this season.

Thorne, back in the side after five games out with a damaged rib, was itching to have a go himself and he intends to press his claims the next time City are in that position.

"I used to take penalties at Cardiff and I'll definitely be putting in for them now," said the striker, who is still looking for his first goal for the club.

"I'd have loved to have taken that one but when you come in and haven't played for a while it's not really a case of saying I'm on penalties'."

City's victory was a much-needed pick-me-up and Thorne, pictured, added: "We've got to latch on to that feeling from the win because we've been down in the dumps.

"The heads were down after Saturday's game and you wondered when the luck would start turning - but there were signs against Chester that we were getting those little breaks at last.

"It was a good achievement by the boys because they've got such a great away record but I thought the formation worked in the first half when we started playing some more attractive football and it was nice to be involved with that.

"There were a few of us who've not got any match fitness, so you're going to get players tiring and you could tell that in the second half, but we stuck at it."
