MICHAEL Collins felt City lacked the composure to fight back in today’s 2-0 loss to Barnsley.

The Bantams failed to register a single shot on target at Valley Parade against a side tipped to bounce straight back to the Championship.

Collins admitted his side tried to rush too much in attacking areas after the shock of falling behind to a sixth-minute goal.

He said: “I thought that changed the dynamic. We started the game okay and then with their first foray into our half, they end up nicking a goal.

“On the back of that, I think we lost a little bit of composure. Maybe because of the occasion and wanting to impress, we rushed a bit to try and grab the equaliser and looked patchy in our play going forward.

“It’s not shown me anything to leave me thinking ‘wow, we’re miles away from Barnsley’. I don’t think we are.

“I just felt that when that goal went in, the occasion made the lads almost rush with their attacks and that played into Barnsley’s hands. They are a team happy to play on the counter-attack.

“In the first 20 minutes last week, we were very calm and composed in our approach building towards our goal.

“Today, as soon as they scored, we lost that momentum and rushed. We were forcing passes straight away trying to break their lines and that’s not how football works.

“Sometimes you have to be patient.”
