STEVE Crossley aims to lead from the front again for the Bulls at Wrexham tomorrow.

The no-nonsense prop continues to captain the side during Lee Smith’s prolonged injury absence.

With Smith not expected back until next month, Crossley is proud to carry on in the role as the Bulls look to keep their noses in front of promotion rivals York.

“I am massively proud to be leading the boys out,” said Crossley, ahead of the trip to North Wales Crusaders.

“This is my home-town club and I have played here in all three divisions.

“I want to lead us back into the Championship. I absolutely love playing here and I will lead from the front and do everything I can to help us achieve that.”

With the Bulls locked on 36 points with the Knights, there is no margin for error going into the last six games of a thrilling League One title race.

But Crossley is happy to roll up his sleeves to tackle the challenge and believes John Kear is the perfect coach to lead them through the critical run-in.

Last week’s 46-0 win over Whitehaven at Odsal has set the bar high for the remainder.

Crossley added: “After the York defeat we will have to do it the hard way but we are prepared to do that.

“Racking up so many points while being solid in defence will do us no harm heading into the final six games.

“John has had a huge impact on the club and I can speak for my myself and my team-mates by saying we are full of respect for him and everything he has achieved.

“He is an absolute god-send. He is the perfect coach for the club and I am delighted he is ours for now and for future challenges as we work our way back to where we deserve to be.

“We want that promotion straight away. We will take each game as it comes – but with only six games left the end is in sight and we will do what we need to do to achieve that.”
