I WAS delighted with the players at Warrington last week. I thought the effort, the commitment, the work rate, everything you could ask for in a game, was there in bucketfuls and they got lots of credit for that.

Obviously, we came up against a very good rugby league team in Warrington Wolves, who have grown as the season has progressed and have some high quality individuals. I think they are going to be a real force in Super League this season.

That maybe accounts for the score line but all I can look after is our performance and approach to the game and I was delighted with it.

The support at the Halliwell Jones was unbelievable.

I have had a message from Ryan Atkins saying how good the fans were and all the coaching staff at Warrington, when I spoke to them after the game, remarked on what a great atmosphere they had created and on how good they were.

They really do lift you and inspire you. That means you are happy to continue working really hard to get a team that’s good enough to go with these superb fans and achieve the same level as them.

I believe we have a Super League fan base, a Super League training base, a Super League commercial base and a Super League stadium. Now we have to grow a Super League team.

Tomorrow we have a very tough game at Doncaster. I went to watch their game against Featherstone last weekend and believe me they can defend! They have a better defensive record than us, albeit by just one point, and ours is very good in League One.

They have some quality individuals, such as Jason Tali in the centre. Aaron Jones Bishop is a really strong running winger and Ritchie Owen also features there.

They have a French international at full back (Hakim Miloudi) and a couple of good pivots. Ryan Boyle leads them along with Kyle Kesik up front, so we have our work cut out, especially with us travelling to their ground.

The good thing is that it’s a good firm playing surface and a big one and that should encourage a very open type of game.

Last week saw the end of the under-16s fixtures and the lads finished off in style with a great win over the joint Hull side. The most important thing though is the identification of the talent and the recruitment of that talent to take into the under-19s.

All the staff should be congratulated, firstly on identifying those players, then developing them within our system and then the recruitment of those players.

I think John Bastian, as head of youth at the club, and Mark Dunning, who has coached the under-16s, should be congratulated and thanked for the good job they have done.

Now it’s up to us to continue developing these young players into good academy players and hopefully good first-team players and, in the future, Super League players.
