BRADFORD City Women visit West Bromwich Albion in the FA Women's Premier League this weekend, looking for their first away win in this fixture for almost five years.

The Bantams were 2-0 winners this time last year thanks to goals from Laura Elford, but that was at home, with their last win in the Midlands against their ‘bogey team’ coming back in September 2013.

Now assistant manager Faye Boshell opened the scoring that day in a 2-0 win and she is positive going into the game, despite City’s recent record in the fixture.

“It’s an easy goal to remember as I don’t score many. That one was a free-kick some way out,” she recalled.

“When we play West Brom it’s always a battle and whoever wants it more on the day will pick up the points, which we saw last season in our home win.

“We are always positive going into any game as we have proven that, if we turn up on the day, we can beat any team in this league.”

City certainly proved that in their 9-2 demolition of league leaders Middlesbrough last month, but were left kicking themselves when they followed that up with a 3-0 loss against reigning champions Blackburn.

However, they could not play tomorrow’s opposition at a more perfect time, with the third-bottom Baggies without a win over a team above them in the league since September.

Fresh from securing their place in the West Riding County Cup final, Boshell is confident that City can defy a wretched return of three wins from 10 meetings with West Brom.

“We’ve not played in the league for a month, but we’ve had friendlies and we got a competitive win under our belts last week in the County Cup,” she said.

“The players have trained very well and all the signs are positive going into the game.”
