STUART McCall says he won't get wrapped up in speculation regarding the potential sale of Nahki Wells and the subsequent windfall it would land City.

Wells has a year left on his contract at Huddersfield and manager David Wagner has stated he will listen to offers for the Bermudian, who has not travelled to Austria for the club's pre-season training camp due to an ankle injury.

Reading boss Jaap Stam has confirmed the former Bantam is among their targets, with reports claiming the Royals could make up to a £10million bid for the striker.

That would see City net around £1.2million thanks to the sell-on clause included in the deal which saw him join the Terriers in January 2014.

With the Bantams still on the lookout for at least one defender to offset the loss of centre half Rory McArdle to Scunthorpe, a seven-figure cash injection would potentially provide key funds before the transfer window shuts at the end of August.

But McCall refused to speculate, saying: "You only start talking about that when the deal is done. It’s easy to say this might happen or that might happen.

"I think the club’s done well over the years with little sell-ons. We just made a quarter of a million when Huddersfield went up to the Premier League (thanks to another clause as part of the Wells sale) and got the money from Andre Wisdom's move.

"Obviously it will be a great benefit to the club if they do sell Nahki but until that happens, it’s not something I get involved in."

Wagner said Wells may need surgery to remove a screw from his ankle which had been put in after an old injury, and said he expected him to be out for at least two to three weeks.

The City boss has expressed the need for a big, physical centre half to add aerial presence to his back line but admits he could do with another defensive addition following summer departures.

He said: "Looking at last season we’ve lost five defenders in Darby, Meredith, McArdle and the two lads on loan, Toner and Penney. We’ve really only recruited Adam Chicksen.

"Everyone knows we need a right-sided centre half but we then might need another one in the defensive area."

Meanwhile, midfielder Timothee Dieng is likely to get another run-out in today's under-23 development training-ground match against York City, having returned from injury against Halifax.

Paul Taylor and Dominic Poleon could be involved as well, though McCall admitted it may be too early for them as they recover from knocks.

* Former City trialist Gordon Greer has agreed a deal to rejoin Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock.

The 36-year-old centre half went on the Bantams' pre-season tour to Austria and Germany but the club opted not to sign him.
