TWO young pacemen have been given the chance to impress when The All Rounder Cricket Bradford Premier League play a Yorkshire Vikings XI on Monday.

Lightcliffe’s Max Gardner (17) and New Farnley’s Andrew Brewster (20) have been selected for the T20 Challenge Match at Pudsey Congs (6pm).

Gardner impressed team team manager Paul Hutchison when bowling for Lightcliffe on a flat pitch.

Hutchison said: “He looks a good prospect and bowled well when I saw him. This is a chance for him .”

Brewster, a student at Cardiff University. made two first class appearances earlier this year for Cardiff MCCU against Glamorgan and Hampshire.

He also played one game earlier this month for Durham Seconds against Worcester in a T20 game.

“He has good pace and like Max, he has an opportunity to catch the eye,” said Hutchison.

Hanging Heaton’s Heaton’s Gary Fellows will captain the league side as they take on what is expected to be a youthful Yorkshire side bolstered by a couple of international players who will not be featuring in the County Championship game with Somerset at Scarborough which starts on Monday.

James Wainman (Farsley) and Jordan Thompson (Pudsey St Lawrence) will be part of the Yorkshire side.

Two of the players who have made such a big impact with Townville, Conor Harvey and Jack Hughes have been rewarded with selection.

The overseas berth goes this time to Bradford & Bingley’s Noman Ali. He was selected for last year’s match which was rained off.

Hutchison said: “I think it is important for us to give some young players a chance to perform against Yorkshire.

“It would have been easy just to fill the team with experienced men, but this is a perfect opportunity for some of our most promising cricketers to play.

“I am confident that the side that has been chosen will do very well.”

Bradford Premier League XI: Gary Fellows (Hanging Heaton), Adam Waite (Pudsey St Lawrence), Simon Lambert (New Farnley), Conor Harvey (Townville), Jack Hughes (Townville), Callum Geldart (Hanging Heaton), Noman Ali (Bradford & Bingley), Mally Nicholson (Cleckheaton), Curtis Free (Cleckheaton), Max Gardner (Lightcliffe), Andrew Brewster (New Farnley).

Leaders Hanging Heaton go to Townville tomorrow looking to return to winning ways after a tie at East Bierley and a narrow defeat by defending champions Pudsey St Lawrence.

Townville have lost their last two league games so they will also be looking for a change of fortunes.

Bottom two Pudsey Congs and Batley face tough away games at Woodlands and Farsley respectively.

Pudsey St Lawrence look to continue their recent momentum at Bradford & Bingley, while New Farnley entertain Cleckheaton and Lightcliffe host East Bierley.
