FARSLEY Celtic Juniors and Stanningley Old Boys have met three times so far this season and on each occasion the scoreline has been 3-1.

Celtic won the league clash but Stanningley got their revenge in the Yorkshire Old Boys' Shield.

The third fixture came in the Yorkshire Amateur League's Marflitt Trophy – for Premiership and Championship clubs – with Celtic making it 2-1 in the head-to-heads.

Farsley worked hard to win what was never expected to be a free-flowing quarter-final and took the lead when a 45-yard Craig Farrand lob beat the Stanningley keeper, who misjudged the flight of the ball thinking it was going wide.

Stanningley equalised in the 25th minute when Jason Carr scored at the far post following a corner but, within five minutes, Paul Dockerty powerfully headed the hosts back into the lead from another corner.

Before half-time, Matt Gerraghty squandered a great chance to equalise and Stanningley paid for that in the second half when they ran out of stamina due to three injuries, Ben Wilson finishing them off in the 75th minute.

Grangefield Old Boys trailed 4-0 at Leeds Medics & Dentists in their quarter-final but gave a better display in the second half, halving the deficit via Matt Tomlinson and Kristian Dacre.

The two big guns from Division Three met in a Hancock Cup quarter-final, with visitors East Ardsley Wanderers edging an extraordinary tie 6-5 in extra time at Fairbank United.

On target for United were Omar Dambe (2), Shoaib Hussain (2) and Mahmadu Dambe – but they led 5-4 with minutes of normal time remaining before conceding from a long throw-in.

Fate was not with Fairbank in extra time as they were denied a penalty for handball and Mahmadu Dambe missed a simple chance from six yards out.

At least they will have two more chances for revenge in league fixtures.

Calverley United defeated visitors Shire Academics 4-3 in the Championship Division and moved above them into fourth from bottom.

Yet Shire, who equalised three times but were not happy with the pitch, are two points in arrears with three games in hand.

Chris Coates, at the third attempt, put United ahead but the referee decided to go ahead with the match after consulting with both captains when it was 1-1.

Joel Binns' deflected shot put Calverley in front again and although their keeper's error from a back pass allowed Shire to make it 2-2, Tom Atkins' header gave United the advantage for a third time.

A brilliant overhead kick restored parity but Neil Cooper's late free-kick gave United victory.

Division One leaders Gildersome Spurs Old Boys made use of their all-weather pitch to defeat fourth-placed Horsforth St Margaret's by the unexpectedly large margin of 6-1.

It was only Horsforth's second defeat of the season as they conceded goals to Mike Hall (3), Ben Keedy, Danny Phillips and Jason Hardcastle, with substitute Alex McGurk getting the reply.

Spurs have 29 points – as have second-placed St Bede's, who have played a game more.

Bede's made it five wins and a draw from their last six matches by defeating Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves 5-1, although the game only went ahead after a late inspection and even then the ground cut up badly.

Celtic dominated the opening 15 minutes and took the lead before Bede's took charge, scoring via Nick Scullion (2), Nathan Bailey, the influential Andy McHugh and young Tawheed Ahmed.

Huddersfield YMCA jumped from tenth to sixth with a 5-1 victory at second-bottom Grangefield Old Boys' Reserves.

Idle continue to press leaders Collegians in Division Two, winning 3-0 at Old Centralians to maintain their 100 per cent away record.

Goals came from Aaron Irving (2) and Adam Medley, Idle remaining six points behind with two games in hand.

Bottom side St Bede's Reserves made heads turn in Division Five, drawing 3-3 with runaway leaders Garforth Crusaders to end their 100 per cent record.

Brandon Hammond (2) and Michael Dougan netted for Bede's after they trailed three times against the visitors, who had a player sent off.

Drighlington Reserves are up to seventh after a 6-1 victory at fourth-placed Methley United, the visitors' goals coming from Ben Garner (2), Charlie Leather (2), Noel Hynes and an own goal.
