There is good news and bad news regarding Guiseley's pre-season friendly plans.

The good news is that the work done on the pitch has gone far better than envisaged and means it should be ready for use in the build-up to the new season.

The bad news is that one of the two high profile warm-up games that were in the pipeline is in serious doubt while the other has yet to be confirmed.

Premiership outfit Wigan Athletic and Leeds United had been pencilled in but developments have since put a question mark over them.

"We are definitely hoping the Leeds game will still be on but the Wigan fixture is very iffy at the moment," said director Stuart Allen this week.

Guiseley asked for the Wigan game while former Bradford City boss Paul Jewell, who still resides locally, was still in charge of the club that saved its Premiership status in dramatic fashion.

Director Stuart Allen said: "As far as I know it was a verbal agreement with Paul made at a time when he was the manager of Wigan. But he quit the job to take a break from the pressures of the game."

Meanwhile, Leeds still have to finalise their pre-season arrangements following the much-publicised goings-on off the field.

"Nothing is clear about Leeds yet regarding their pre-season but we will be in contact with them again, maybe after their trip to Ireland, which begins their friendly fixture itinerary," added Allen.

"Regarding our pitch, it has taken well.

"The work was started very early to give it every possible opportunity. There has been a lot of money spent on it so the last thing we want is to go out on it too early.

"It is a case of monitoring it week by week, but I'm sure it will be fine for any date that we are given for a home game that will bring in the supporters and so raise some income after the close season."
